Connecting Your MSGCU Account with another bank or credit union You can connect, or link, your Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union membership with an account at another credit union or bank so you can easily transfer funds between them. Non-MSGCU accounts are referred to in online and mobile banking as "external accounts." You only need to set this up once. You'll need the routing number of the other financial institution and the account number of your other account. If you don't have a check to reference, you should be able to find the routing number on the other bank or credit union's website. Once you have the routing number and account number of your other bank or credit union, log in to the MSGCU Mobile App. Select "Manage Payees" from the menu. Click the plus button next to External Account Payees to add a new payee. Enter the details of the account where prompted. Then select Link Account. Two small deposits, totaling a dollar or less, will be made into your other account. It may take up to 48 hours for those deposits to show. Once your deposits have been received in the other account, you'll need to confirm them in your MSGCU. Here's how. Log in to your MSGCU account, and select Manage Payees again. Under External Account Payees, you will see the account you previously set up, with the word "pending" next to it. Select "confirm recipient" under the account details. Then enter the two deposit amounts that were deposited into your external account and select confirm. You'll see a confirmation message that your external account has been confirmed. You're now able to transfer to and from your MSGCU and external accounts! We'll walk through how to do that next. You can transfer from your MSGCU account to your external account, or from your external account into your MSGCU account. Log in, then select Transfers from menu. Select "from account" then choose which MSGCU account you want to transfer from. Transfers to external accounts can made from your MSGCU checking or membership share accounts. Then select "to account" and choose "external account." Specify which external account you wish to use. Then enter how much you want to transfer and if you want to transfer now or at a future date. It may take up to three business days for the transfer to show up in your other account. You can also transfer from your external account to your MSGCU account. Log in, then select Transfers from menu. Select "from account" then choose "external account." Specify which external account you want to transfer from. Then select "to account" and choose which MSGCU account you want the money to go to. Transfers from external accounts can be made to your MSGCU checking or membership share accounts.
